Internationally recognized heart surgeon, Stanford professor and inventor Dr. Thomas Fogarty founded the winery in 1981. Winemaker Michael Martella and Dr. Fogarty pioneered cool climate grape growing in the northern section of the Santa Cruz Mountains when,in 1978, Dr. Fogarty was the first to plant on the region’s Skyline Ridge, some 2,000 feet above sea level.
